HR INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
1. Have you ever been asked to leave a position?
If you have not, say no. If you have, be honest, brief and avoid saying negative things about the people or organization involved.
2. Tell me about a suggestion you have made?
Have a good one ready. Be sure and use a suggestion that was accepted and was then considered successful. One related to the type of work applied for is a real plus.
3. Why do you think you would do well at this job?
Give several reasons and include skills, experience and interest.
ANS:
A)My consistency of good track record, Inquisitiveness to learn new and quick adaptability for change and finally the support and cooperation required by my team members.
B) i will do well in this job because i already have previous experience in the similar field. So i will use my previous experience in this job. And i am interested in learning new things and enhance my skills.
C) Sir, I have an technical skills where I can involve for doing a good work. I have patience and i can create better output. During the project class lot of problem we have faced i have tried hard for overcome from this problem.
4. Aren’t you overqualified for this position?
TRAPS: The employer may be concerned that you’ll grow dissatisfied and leave.
BEST ANSWER: As with any objection, don’t view this as a sign of imminent defeat. It’s an invitation to teach the interviewer a new way to think about this situation, seeing advantages instead of drawbacks.
Example: “I recognize the job market for what it is – a marketplace. Like any marketplace, it’s subject to the laws of supply and demand. So ‘overqualified’ can be a relative term, depending on how tight the job market is. And right now, it’s very tight. I understand and accept that.”
“I also believe that there could be very positive benefits for both of us in this match.”
“Because of my unusually strong experience in ________________ , I could start to contribute right away, perhaps much faster than someone who’d have to be brought along more slowly.”
“There’s also the value of all the training and years of experience that other companies have invested tens of thousands of dollars to give me. You’d be getting all the value of that without having to pay an extra dime for it. With someone who has yet to acquire that experience, he’d have to gain it on your nickel.”
“I could also help you in many things they don’t teach at the Harvard Business School. For example…(how to hire, train, motivate, etc.) When it comes to knowing how to work well with people and getting the most out of them, there’s just no substitute for what you learn over many years of front-line experience. You company would gain all this, too.”
“From my side, there are strong benefits, as well. Right now, I am unemployed. I want to work, very much, and the position you have here is exactly what I love to do and am best at. I’ll be happy doing this work and that’s what matters most to me, a lot more that money or title.”
“Most important, I’m looking to make a long term commitment in my career now. I’ve had enough of job-hunting and want a permanent spot at this point in my career. I also know that if I perform this job with excellence, other opportunities cannot help but open up for me right here. In time, I’ll find many other ways to help this company and in so doing, help myself. I really am looking to make a long-term commitment.”
NOTE: The main concern behind the “overqualified” question is that you will leave your new employer as soon as something better comes your way. Anything you can say to demonstrate the sincerity of your commitment to the employer and reassure him that you’re looking to stay for the long-term will help you overcome this objection.
5. What have you learned from mistakes on the job?
Here you have to come up with something or you strain credibility. Make it small, well intentioned mistake with a positive lesson learned. An example would be working too far ahead of colleagues on a project and thus throwing coordination off.
Making mistakes is of human nature but feeling guilty of the mistake or feeling sorry will be the waste of time so learn from the mistakes and do not repeat it is what my superiors had advised me. So I realize my mistake and i do not repeat them.
6. What has disappointed you about a job?
Don't get trivial or negative.
Safe areas are few but can include:
Not enough of a challenge. You were laid off in a reduction Company did not win a contract, which would have given you more responsibility.
7. How do you propose to compensate for your lack of experience?
First, if you have experience that the interviewer does not know about, bring that up: Then, point out (if true) that you are a hard working quick learner.
8. Tell me about a time when you helped resolve a dispute between others?
Pick a specific incident. Concentrate on your problem solving technique and not the dispute you settled.
9. What has been your biggest professional disappointment?
Be sure that you refer to something that was beyond your control. Show acceptance and no negative feelings
10. Tell me about the most fun you have had on the job?
Talk about having fun by accomplishing something for the organization.
11. What experience do you have in this field?
Speak about specifics that relate to the position you are applying for. If you do not have specific experience, get as close as you can.
12. What is your philosophy towards work?
The interviewer is not looking for a long or flowery dissertation here. Do you have strong feelings that the job gets done? Yes. That's the type of answer that works best here. Short and positive, showing a benefit to the organization.
13. What motivates you to do your best on the job?
This is a personal trait that only you can say, but good examples are:
Challenge, Achievement, Recognition
First of all i am a workaholic and i cannot sit idle. So the motivation to do the best work comes to me naturally. But if asked what actually motivates me then i would say its the Satisfaction that I get after a whole day of work that keeps me going.
Hi, Challenge, Achievement, and Recognition motivate me to do my best on the job.
Perfection, confidence, patience are the thing me to motivate on the job
14. Are you applying for other jobs?
Be honest but do not spend a lot of time in this area. Keep the focus on this job and what you can do for this organization. Anything else is a distraction.
Of course, I am. I am looking for the best place to apply my abilities, and so far this place looks excellent.
Side note - if you sent the resume, rather than went on a recommendation from a friend, it would be obvious you sent it to other places as well.
15. How long would you expect to work for us if hired?
Specifics here are not good. Something like this should work: I'd like it to be a long time. Or As long as we both feel I'm doing a good job.
I'll be satisfied till the time I’m able to learn and contribute and my contribution's are recognized. Also I’m able to grow as a professional and an individual.
I worked for my previous employer ... years. That demonstrates my loyalty. So, as long as the work is challenging, and I will have growth and training potential, I will be happy to work here.
16. Suppose you already have job offer and giving to interview to other new company. What reasoning should be given if other company employer asks that about reasons to not accept that job offer? I mean why you will not accept that offer if we will offer you?
Well the job offered by the previous company is not bad. But I am still trying in good companies like yours to know what all post I can get with my talent or with my dedication
First and the most important point, Do not talk ill about the current profile you hold, Tell them you want to explore the advance emerging technologies in the IT industry, and tell them that you are looking forward for the new challenges by accepting if given an opportunity to demonstrate the skills you have acquired from your previous experience
Hey Guys, Please do not convey that i am looking to explore the knowledge you have with other opportunity!!! because every company has its own importance to explore things.Ans : If at all the interviewer company is Big then tell him that am looking for a big brand by which i can learn wide range of business process or functional process.Ans : If at all the interviewer company is small than the previous offer you had then tell him that you want to become a big fish in a small pond rather than becoming small fish in a big pond. Cheers
17. Why did you leave your last job?
Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with management and never speak ill of supervisors, co-workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward-looking reasons.
I prefer an organization where i can contribute and my contribution are recognized and appreciated.
18. Do you know anyone who works for us?
Be aware of the policy on relatives working for the organization. This can affect your answer even though they asked about friends not relatives. Be careful to mention a friend only if they are well thought of.
If this question is for reference/favor, I say NO.
But if it's for records/formalities, I say YES.
19. What qualities do you look for in a boss?
Be generic and positive. Safe qualities are knowledgeable, a sense of humor, fair, loyal to
Subordinates and holder of high standards. All bosses think they have these traits.
The main thing that should be present is that.....at no point of time, i should feel like i have nothing to learn from him (either professionally or personally).
20. What irritates you about co-workers?
This is a trap question. Think real hard but fail to come up with anything that irritates you. A short statement that you seem to get along with folks is great.
The worker's who hate learning and think spoon feeding is for adults too.
21. Tell me about a problem you had with a supervisor?
Biggest trap of all. This is a test to see if you will speak ill of your boss. If you fall for it and tell about a problem with a former boss, you may well below the interview right there. Stay positive and develop a poor memory about any trouble with a supervisor.
My supervisor was not too keen on taking an initiative or implement new ways in solving a problem. He believed in anarchy system and always consulted his boss rather than going to him with an idea or being helpful in reaching towards a solution.
Hi,
To add up a little humor, say
Actually, it was he who was having problems. I was just constantly reminded of that. :-)

I would try to utilize my skills according to the job given to me...
23. Why do you want to work for this organization?
This may take some thought and certainly, should be based on the research you have done on the organization. Sincerity is extremely important here and will easily be sensed. Relate it to your long-term career goals.
Already I told that this organization having nice mangement, good atmosphere, I can gain knowledge from here. So only I choose your organization
The answer for this question should be very precise and punching:
You should do some research about the company and its competing abilities with other comanies in that area.
e.g., "I wanted to work for this company because you are a leading and fastest-expanding company ....... Hence it is a logical progression for me to join this company with my abilities."
24. Do you have any questions for me?
Always have some questions prepared. Questions prepared where you will be an asset to the
Organizations are good. How soon will I be able to be productive? And what type of projects will I be able to assist on? Are examples.
Will u appoint me?
You can always ask what the growth prospects with the company are
What are the basic values that the company believes in?
What kind of skills are the prospect employers looking for the job role? Etc.
Usually Employer asks this question to test your interest in the company. Hence you should ask questions to show keen interest to join the company.
e.g., Do you provide any training, if I am employed?; What do you expect from the prospective employees in this job?; What is the criterion for growth in this company? Etc...
Remember that don’t ask too many questions and whatever you ask, the question should be genuine and inquisitive.

27. Tell me about your dream job?
Stay away from a specific job. You cannot win. If you say the job you are contending for is it, you strain credibility. If you say another job is it, you plant the suspicion that you will be dissatisfied with this position if hired. The best is to stay genetic and say something like: A job where I love the work, like the people, can contribute and can't wait to get to work.
A job where my contribution plays a role in permanent success and work done in a day be a fresh motive for the next day
A job where my contribution plays a unique part in permanent success and a work done in a day seeks me satisfaction and be a fresh motive for the next day
A job where my contribution plays an unique role in permanent success and the work done in a day yields me satisfaction and be a fresh motive and competitive for the next day

I am looking forward to work on different domains, where i can explore myself more to the industry.
This is a common question in most of the interviews for all except freshers. Never put down your present company in any way. Rather highlight the advantages in your new job and company.
I think this will give a negative impact for the interviewer. Try giving some other smart answer. Like looking for a different environment, else tell them that u r looking for a kind of job where u can apply ur skills and abilities to the best.

Trick question. If you know about blind spots, they are no longer blind spots. Do not reveal any personal areas of concern here. Let them do their own discovery on your bad points. Do not hand it to them.
I would say everyone has blind spots, and i would too. And that is why I believe in teamwork, because when you are a team, you can point out other people's blind spots and they will do the same for you.
Don't be too specific of your actual weakness. But instead try to bring out that you are very team oriented.

The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present.
Professionally : Hard working , ambitious , do every thing I can 2 improve myself more ,, I appreciate serious and hardworking people and enjoy working (and learning ) from them ..Personally: I have few, but wonderful, friends. We meet at week ends and we make wonderful journeys and hang outs...
41. HR-IBM: "Customer is a key, or key is a customer" Describe. Please give me the answer.

Customer is important for any organization because without them no business is possible.
Key is customer because they contribute in business by mouth publicity, if they are satisfied they can add customer in organization but if they are not satisfied they can reduce customers also
42.Have you ever had to fire anyone? How did you feel about that?
This is serious. Do not make light of it or in any way seem like you like to fire people. At the same time, you will do it when it is the right thing to do. When it comes to the organization versus the individual who has created a harmful situation, you will protect the organization. Remember firing is not the same as layoff or reduction in force.
"So with me, firing is a last resort. But when it’s got to be done, its got to be done, and the faster and cleaner, the better. A poor employee can wreak terrible damage in undermining the morale of an entire team of good people. When there's no other way, I’ve found its better for all concerned to act decisively in getting rid of offenders who won't change their ways."

In the United States, curriculum vitae is used primarily when applying for academic, education, scientific or research positions. It is also applicable when applying for fellowships or grants

Industries provides us good exposure to apply our skills practically and provide us a chance to have hands on experience in the chosen field..
we graduate from our colleges which may not give us the practical working experience or knowledge, industry is where we learn to apply our technical skills and try to master it .
Industry is a place where the graduates have the opportunity to apply their skills n knowledge which they learn from their respective institutions. So feel industry is a best way for a person to applying their practical knowledge.
Want to join in a fast paced technology industry like yours
We can implement practically as we learn theoretically in college
47. Are you a team player?
You are, of course, a team player. Be sure to have examples ready. Specifics that show you often perform for the good of the team rather than for yourself is good evidence of your team attitude. Do not brag; just say it in a matter-of-fact tone? This is a key point.
While answering this question, try to keep yourself on both sides. For example, if the interviewer asks if you prefer to work alone or on a team, he may be trying to get you to say you are one way or the other. But you don't have to play this game. The reality is that most jobs require us to work both independently and in teams. Your response to this question should show that you have been successful in both situations
(In case you don’t find yourself comfy with team work say this) - I believe in individual work recognition [this would not put your weakness in front of others that strongly, Remember people who take interviews are super masters, do not fool them]
[As I stated above if you are not a firm believer in team work in the sense it doesn’t suit u jst say] I respect individual brilliance[ try to be short precise this way u doesn’t show weak teamwork ship so straightly but still if the interviewer is a master he will know it ... and remember even interviewers are not that much into teamwork infect 70% of people don’t like it so relax and stay calm ;)]
Yes i am team player. I value each n every team member’s opinions
48. Why should we not hire you?
For this question we can tell what exactly we have contributed to the organization that we are working for. By taking the same we need to justify our self saying that you have faced all kinds of situations in the company and how exactly you have resolved (if any) that problem.....
Because you may feel that my profile does not match the requirement.
You should not hire me if your risks not having a person who excels in this business.
49. I have given an HR interview where they ask me to write where do you see yourself in 5 years down lane.
One of my friend faced this questions and he answered as ,i will be in you seat, like suppose general manager/AGM has taken the interview....,
This question is asked by the employers to know how career oriented u r. U should focus on ur future in the organization in that fair amount of time and how u will utilize that valuable time in the organization. U can focus on how u will develop leadership qualities, decision making, and people management etc.Hasini
I was asked this question. I gave the reply as a decision maker, whose decision is imp for the company. By whose decision the company's growth is there.
To gain experience down the ground in the career stream which I have opted and to be at the top cadre in the organisation.
50. Tell me about your ability to work under pressure?
You may say that you thrive under certain types of pressure. Give an example that relates to the type of position applied for.
I have always enjoyed working under pressure it is like a tonic which boosts me but i always keep it under control so it does not take a toll on me.
51.Tell me about your ability to work under pressure?...
Yes surely i will be work under any pressure because i am the person who is able to solve the problem not to skip the problem
Enjoy working under pressure as only them I am able to bring out my best. Ones just needs to break tasks, start achieving them one by one with commitment and concentration. And the joy is more when you get success!!
You don’t know about 'easy’ A when you don’t feel 'hard'. In the same manner when you work under pressure it will teach you about how easily we can complete the task in other situations. So i'd like to work under pressure in the same way as i do with other tasks.
It is one's personal tolerance power to handle the tens condition. To solve it or say handle it, you must go to the depth of the task and then think for a while, and now apply your skills.
52. What kind of salary do you need?
A loaded question. A nasty little game that you will probably lose if you answer first. So, do not answer it. Instead, say something like, That's a tough question. Can you tell me the range for this position? In most cases, the interviewer, taken off guard, will tell you. If not, say that it can depend on the details of the job. Then give a wide range.
Answer likes "I’m sure the company has already established a salary range for this position. Could you tell me what that is?
It will obviously be a reasonable salary, as it will be  entirely depending on the job and the standard of the company.
53. Speak about yourself professionally?
You should highlight your projects and your experience with other companies if you have worked with other companies.
             Â
54. What should I answer if my interviewer asks me about my short and long term goals? Tell me with some example?
The short term goal is what u wants to be at present and the long term goal is what u wanted to be in future i.e., may be after 5 or more years or less.
for ex, suppose u r trying in IT based on development side, then u can say ie., for present, that u want be a software programmer or .net developer and for future, u can say to be the project leader/manager or at the top position in it.
HI DEAR SHORT TERM GOAL MEANS UPTO NORMALLY ONE YEAR , LIKE CHANGE IN JOB , CHANGE IN WORKING ENVIRONMENT ETC. BUT LONG TERM GOAL WHICH FOR LONG DURATION OF TIME MAY BE UPTO 5 OR 10 YEARS,LIKE TRY TO BE HUMAN CAPITAL OF AN ORGANIZATION,BORD OF DIRECTOR OF COMPANY,OUTSIDE HR CONSULTANT ETC.
Long term goal is nothing but i have to be a lead role in the current industry and i have to utilize my skills and experience to my juniors also to learn this long term goal
Short term goal is nothing but I have to work hard to achieve the long term goal
To understand interview questions, imagine yourself in the other's position. Imagine you are hiring someone to make your life easier, to be a servant. You have many suspicions about the person. You wonder if the person is dishonest. You wonder if are lazy, if they are difficult to manage, if they are incompetent. You wonder if the person is going to quit the job soon, then you will have to hire a new servant which is extra work for you.
Most interview questions are trying to get at these basic suspicions. Some questions are meant to expose the dishonest person, some to expose the troublesome or quarrelsome person, some to expose a person with too much ambition and too greedy. Remember the interviewer cares nothing about you, has no real interest in you, the same as if you were interviewing a servant or a sale or a nothing, from the interviewer's point of view. You are mainly a tool for their use, like a napkin or tissue for them to blow their nose on.
The short and long-term goals question is generally within the "will you quit the job" category. If your goals are similar to the real work you are being hired for (not the work you were told, that is very different) then likely it won't be big problem; if your goals are very different or you don't have any goals, its likely you will change jobs soon, and it is extra work for the interviewer, who remember is a selfish and stupid person who wants to make their own life better and that is all the want.
My advice is to tell the truth about your goals, in a positive and cheerful manner, if you are not a dishonest or lazy or incompetent person they will be happy to hire you.
My short term goal would be to get in-depth knowledge about the technologies and process involved in my domain.
My log term goal will be, doing some value addition work, in addition to my responsibilities for the organization I am working for may be leading some projects, creating some generic solutions which then can be used across the organization.
